Oprah’s Favorite Visor

Monday, March 31st, 2008

It’s back! In the May 2007 edition of O Magazine one of Oprah’s favorite things was a rollable wide brimmed visor…the Ashley by Scala. Well, you guessed it. It’s back for 2008 and is already proving to be a best seller again. It’s available in seven different colors and we’re going to try our best to keep them all in stock. We’ve already had a few customers come in and buy one of each color. Besides the fact that Oprah had it as one of her favorite things a lot of women like it because it has a wide brim, is adjustable in sizing and can roll up making it easy to carry with you.

Where Have the Easter Bonnets Gone?

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

Once upon a time all little girls got a new bonnet for Easter and her mother would get a new hat for Easter as well. At last nights Good Friday service I could count on one hand the number of women wearing a hat among hundreds in attendance. What a shame. I suppose it all started when women were no longer required to cover their heads when entering a church. Since then it has been a gradual decline in the number of women wearing hats for Easter or any other special occasion. Again, what a shame.

I think what women don’t realize is that by putting on a hat you aren’t just doing it for the sake of style but it helps to put you in the right frame of mind. If wearing a hat for church it can help put you in a state of reverence just as easily as putting you in a festive mood if wearing the hat to a cocktail party or the Kentucky Derby.

If you’re not used to wearing a hat here are a couple tips to keep in mind when shopping for a hat:

- Choose a conservative color. Choosing a neon blue or fire engine red colored hat will only keep drawing your eye, and every else’s, to your hat.
- Find the appropriate brim size. If you’re barely five feet tall and 100 pounds a big 4″ or 5″ brimmed hat will look like you’re standing under an umbrella.
- Get a proper fit. Nothing will stop you from wearing a hat again faster than a hat that’s too small or too big. If it’s not comfortable you won’t wear it again.

One of the best selling women’s hats this season has been the Betmar Nile as shown here:

Finally, one of the most important things to remember is for you to wear the hat and not let the hat wear you. What does this mean? If you wear the hat with confidence and like it’s part of you it will look completely natural. On the other hand, if you are walking around like you are trying to balance a plate on your head people will know it.

Get in the right frame of mind and get a hat on.

Peace to you this Easter season.

A Spring Hat For A Spring Day

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

It’s still cold here in the White Mountains of New Hampshire but it’s sunny and we’ve had some snow melting happening. So much that I was actually able to sweep the sidewalk this morning without snow getting in the way. It was so nice to be outside in the sun it put me in the mood to unpack some more spring and summer hats we recently received from Dorfman Pacific. Here are a couple examples of what I’ve unpacked:

A women’s wide brimmed raffia hat by Callanan:

and a Scala sun hat that has a paper braid crown and cotton brim:

Both of these hats provide some great sun protection and a lot of style. Tomorrow I’ll post a couple for the men.

Spring Fever

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

We’ve had a day today of warm weather, about 40 degrees, and lots of snow melting going on. When the snow starts melting and it gets warm like this our minds start to think about Spring and after a few warm days Spring fever can set in. For most people, Spring fever means finding a new love and feeling optimistic about a great summer. Unfortunately, here in the White Mountains, Spring fever can make you think of the earth turning to mud for several weeks as the ground thaws and turns dirt roads and driveways into several inches of mud. Our driveway at home is a perfect example of this. All we need is a couple girls in bikinis and a bell and we could have mud wrestling.

Also with Spring comes plenty of rain showers. With rain showers come rain hats and Aaron Hats has some great rain hats for you. Here are two great samples for you:

Any Tilley hat will do but here is the Tilley T5:

Ladies Raffia Hat

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

Continuing with my recent trend of reporting on ladies hats here’s another one. Just today, I received the new Tilley R2 Raffia hat for women. The Raffia Hat is trimmed with a 2″” black hatband with matching piped edge with a grosgrain ribbon wind cord for an extra touch elegance and a ton of practicality. Made from 100% premium Madagascar Raffia that softens with age the Tilley Raffia Hat comes with a 2 3/4″” brim that can be worn turned up, down, or any combination of the two. And best of all is that it’s available in four sizes which is almost unheard of with ladies hats.

Kentucky Derby Hats

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

The Kentucky Derby is about eight weeks away so that means the ladies will be vigorously shopping for the absolute right hat for the 134th running of the Derby at Churchill Downs. On May 3, 2008 women will put months of work to an end when they will get dressed in an elegant dress and their new Kentucky Derby hats. At Aaron Hats we have plenty of styles and price ranges but one of my favorites is the Betmar Juliana.

When I first saw this hat I immediately thought of the Derby. Don’t you agree?

Ladies Wide Brimmed Hats

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

All of us here at Aaron Hats have been working as fast as we can to unpack all of the new hats we received this week. As seen in all the fashion magazines this year wide brim hats for women are all the rage. A couple that really stand out are the Betmar Vanessa Wedding Hat and the Betmar Plenty Sunbrim. The Vanessa is a dressy hat perfect for the summer weddings you’ll be attending while the Plenty Sunbrim is perfect for your new sun dress or sitting at your favorite beach reading a hot and steamy novel this summer. Both are packable and available in a variety of colors.

If these two pictures don’t convince you to wear a wide brimmed hat this summer (or to buy one for your sweetheart) nothing will.

Sun Hats Have Been Ordered!

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

Up here in North Conway, NH we had about six inches of snow on Monday and we’re expecting another six inches on Friday. On top of the three feet of snow that was already on the ground this makes for a winter wonderland in the White Mountains. This is great news for all skiers and snowmobilers around New England as I’m sure a lot of them will be heading here for a weekend of white fun. Now, having said all that we have our first shipment of Kangol Spring/Summer hats due to arrive in about 2-3 weeks. This will be the first of many shipments to start arriving. Just yesterday we went to a trade show and ordered ladies hats for the Kentucky Derby, straw sun hats, Toby Keith hats, Indiana Jones hats, childrens bucket hats, Panama hats and hats with certified UV protection for both men and women.

Yesterday while we were at the trade show we were talking with one of the sales reps and she was explaining how every year she thinks about retiring and taking some time off to relax. The reason she hasn’t retired is because whenever she sees the next seasons hats she gets all excited and falls in love with the new hats and just has to share her excitement with her customers. I’m not ready to retire but I do get excited every time I get a new hat catalog or when a salesman shows up at the store with new samples to preview.

Over the next couple weeks I’ll be posting pictures of some of the new hats we’ve ordered and having coming into the store for the Spring and Summer season. I hope you’ll get as excited as I do when you see them.

Manny’s Millinery Closing

Monday, January 14th, 2008

I was truly sad to hear that at the end of this month Manny’s Millinery Supply will be closing their doors for good. This doesn’t hurt our immediate business since we don’t custom make hats but I don’t like hearing of any small business closing, especially one in the headwear industry. You can read the entire story at HatLife.com.

I don’t know where all the milliners will go to get their supplies but I certainly hope there will be somebody out there to pick up where Manny’s left off.
