The Stefeno long-billed newsboy caps have been so popular we decided to bring in a tweed version. So now from Stefeno we have a brown herringbone newsboy cap, a solid black or brown newsboy cap and now a brown or grey tweed newsboy cap called the Wayne. We just received our latest newsboy cap for summer. It’s a very nice 100% linen newsboy cap by Cavanagh. It’s made in Italy and has a satin lining. We currently only have it in the beige color. We get frequent requests for XXL sizes and we had ordered this cap in that size but didn’t get any so Cavanagh must be out of stock in that size. Keep your fingers crossed that they get them back in soon.
“Going green” is one of the latest buzz words in marketing so why shouldn’t it apply to hats too. Hemp has been used for a while in the apparel industry but in the last couple years has really started to take off with hats. Tilley has their hemp hats including the TH4 and the ladies TH8 hemp hat. The TH8 has been especially popular with ladies in our store because it’s available in four sizes so for the ladies who can never find a hat to fit in the “one size fits most” category really appreciate the TH8.
Henschel Hats has also been doing some hemp hats. This year they have five models to choose from. They’re a good lightweight hat but it doesn’t have quite the feel of the Tilley hemp hats. The Henschel hemp hats use a stiffener on them to help keep their fedora and Aussie styling while the Tilley hemp hats don’t use any stiffener almost giving them the look of a linen hat. In either case, hemp is a good material for the environment. Hemp fiber is three times stronger than cotton, twice as resistant to abrasion and naturally resistant to mold and bacteria. It’s also a natural renewable resource so you can feel good about saving the environment while wearing your new hemp hat.

It’s funny how so many once traditional men’s hats are now unisex. In a lot of fashion magazines lately you’ll see the 20 something crowd wearing bowlers, or derbies depending on which side of the pond you’re on. A lot more women are also wearing fedora’s now as well as Ivy and Newsboy caps. It’s hard to believe tomorrow is already August first. It seems that I was looking forward to summer for so long and now we’re nearing the end of summer and the kids will be going back to school soon. On the good side, this means we’re starting to receive the first of our fall and winter hats.
Last year, we decided to not stock women’s hats by Lillie & Cohoe and opted for a more well known brand. What a mistake that was! I’m very happy to report that Lillie & Cohoe is back at Aaron Hats. If you’re not familiar with the brand, they are a woman owned company designing women’s hats by women. We have two deliveries scheduled for the fall/winter season. The first is on it’s way from Canada and should arrive in the next one to two weeks. The second will be arriving towards the end of September.
