New Stingy Brim Fedoras

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…stingy is in. No, I’m not talking about being cheap I’m talking stingy brimmed fedoras. What qualifies as a stingy brim you ask? Any hat with a brim of less than two inches is considered a stingy fedora. Some people will include the two inch brim in the stingy class but anything bigger than that is definitely not considered stingy.

Yesterday was my day off so what did I do…worked of course. At least I was sitting at home while doing it. I added close to 20 new stingy brim fedoras by Bailey of Hollywood. You can check them all out in the Fedora or Bailey Hats categories but here are a couple examples:

The Bailey Masoner with a 1 1/2″ brim:

The Bailey Rubell with a 1 3/4″ brim and really cool hat band:

Stingy brim fedoras are in such demand right now some manufacturers are having a hard time keeping up with the demand. Most of the new fedoras I just added are already at low quantity levels but are in stock and I’m sure will be re-stocked but don’t wait too long to get in on the stingy.

New Stetson Fedoras

Friday, February 13th, 2009

Having met with our Stetson sales rep yesterday, I’m excited about what they’re producing. For this post, I’ll be talking strictly fedoras and will get into the Stetson western hats at a later time. For the uneducated hat wearer, most think a fedora is a fedora is a fedora. But in actuality, there is quite a difference in styling and price points being produced this year by Stetson. For the 2009 felt collection of fedoras Stetson has really expanded who they’re making fedoras for.

To start off, they offer a line of trendy, wool felt fedoras for the younger customer who maybe doesn’t have a big wallet. There’s a total of seven fedoras in their “Street Collection” that would retail between $35 and $45. The MBA falls into that category:

The second grouping of fedoras consists of only three different styles in the “Punk Collection”. This again is a trendy group of fedoras but not for the price sensitive at about $375. This collection have a fancy felt finish, hand made details and are limited editions. The Marquis is my favorite:

An added bonus with the Punk Collection is the fact that they come with this great leather hat box:

Another category that I like is their “Flesso Collection” which consists of lite weight or even ultra lite felt fedoras. My favorite (which has been ordered for July 1 delivery) is a classic styled fedora with a really nice contrasting ribbon detail. This is the Stetson Margate fedora which is fur felt, is lite weight and has a 2 3/8″ bound edge brim. Check it out:

For all of you who like more traditional styles don’t worry. The classics like the Temple, Chatham and even the Nostalgia are back for your enjoyment.

So it doesn’t matter what age you are or how much you want to spend. You’ll be able to pick out a Stetson fedora to suit your needs. Check out the complete line of in-stock and special order Stetson fedoras at Aaron Hats.

Have a Stetson day,

My New Favorite Hat

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

We just got in the Dobbs Oasis which is a summer fedora and I’m in love with the look. This Dobbs fedora is lightweight, has a leather sweatband, a 4″ crown and a 2 1/4″ snap brim. It’s made of shantung which is usually quite stiff but the brim on this is just firm enough to snap down yet quite flexible compared to another Dobbs shantung fedora I have from a couple years ago. The 1″ navy blue hat band on it feels like cotton and has a pleat which lends a bit of detail to an otherwise plain hat band. The kicker for me is the color coordinating blue interwoven into the sawtooth weave pattern in the crown. This detail is done perfectly. For those of you with big heads you’ll really appreciate the fact that this Dobbs fedora is available up to size 8. Once the snow melts and temps get above 60 one of these is finding a home on my head.

Mad Men Fedoras

Monday, October 27th, 2008

Yesterday, I spent some time catching up on the new tv series Mad Men. Overall, I think the show’s good. I especially like that it takes place in the early 1960’s when men wore suits to work. I think when men, and women, dress up they tend to act more like gentlemen and ladies. Though that certainly isn’t always the case in this show. One of the lead characters is Don Draper played by Jon Hamm. He does a great job in this role. You never once don’t believe him with one exception…he doesn’t always seem comfortable in his hat. There’s an old saying that the man should wear the hat, the hat should not wear the man. Occasionally, it looks like the hat is wearing him. As far as style, he could have used a fedora with an extra 1/8″ on the brim but it is the 60’s afterall and that was a time when smaller brims were in style. If you like his style and his hat check out the Stetson Saxon in Caribou Grey. It looks like it’s a spot on match for his.

Bailey Gunman

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

If you’re a hunter or enjoy sporting clays, skeet or trap shooting this hat is for you. The Bailey Gunman is a crushable wool felt that feels more like a fur felt it’s so soft. It has a leather hat band and the emblem on the side is of a shotgunner. I like the style because it’s not really western but not dressy like a traditional fedora either. Check it out and let me know what you think:

New Stetson Fedora

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Arrived just today is the new Stetson Tehachapi Loop fedora. I have to admit that I wasn’t immediately crazy about this hat but now that I’ve tried it on and been admiring it for a couple hours I really like it. If somebody doesn’t buy the 7 1/2 I might have to take it for myself. This hat is really about the details…check out the embroidered lining and the great ribbon used. I think you’ll agree it’s a sharp fedora.

Stetson Temple

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

We’ve been carrying the Stetson Temple fedora in Black and Mink colors for quite some time so I decided to add the Sage color. All I can say is WOW! I now have a new favorite Stetson fedora. The color is just great.

Stetson Temple Fedora

The Temple is a fur felt fedora with a 2 5/8″ x 2 3/8″ snap brim. If you tend to wear a lot of brown’s, khaki’s and olive’s this is the fedora for you.

PS: An update on the Stetson Nostalgia. This has been extremely popular both when we were doing pre-orders and in-stock hats. It is so popular that we are already out of sizes 7 3/8, 7 1/2 and 7 5/8. We already have more on order and expect them fairly shortly.

Stetson Windham

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Another new arrival this week is the Stetson Windham. This is a hat that we did a lot of special orders on so we decided to stock them.

Stetson Windham Fedora

This is a really nice fedora. The proportions are right and the binding on the brim is a really nice touch. It’s available in either the Mink Brown shown above or in Black. It is fur felt and has a 2 1/2″ snap brim.
