We’re Breaking Records!

Friday, February 29th, 2008

We have officially broken a record here in North Conway, NH. This winter has been the snowiest winter in 34 years with 121 inches of snow this year with another five to ten inches of snow due to arrive tonight into tomorrow. A couple more storms like this during March and we could break the all time record of 163.5 inches of snow. Personally, I hope we don’t break that record.

So this snow deal puts us in an odd spot. Almost daily we’re getting new spring and summer hats yet there’s still plenty of winter left. Just like we’re running out of room to put the snow we’re running out of room to put all these hats. So what are we to do? You, our customer, gets the benefit. We’ve put some great winter hats and caps on sale. You can find some of these great deals in our Special Deals section while others you need to go searching for. A couple hats you’ll find on our Special Deals page are the Kangol Wool Bugatti with a $10 savings and all our Akubra hats have a $40 savings. That’s huge!

One deal you won’t find in our Special Deals page is the Tilley Winter Hat. This hat is $20 off. I’ll be the first to admit that Aaron Hats isn’t exactly known for great sales. In fact, we try not to have too many sales. Why? We could be like big chain stores and mark up our prices just so that we can mark them down but instead I prefer to offer a fair price on our hats every day.

So what are you waiting for. It’s Friday, you’re at work staring at the clock waiting for 5:00 to roll around. Get busy shopping! But if the boss catches you don’t blame it on me.

Hats for Cancer Patients

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

I frequently talk about skin cancer and the importance wearing a hat plays in preventing skin cancer. Unfortunately, there are countless other kinds of cancer that require radiation and chemo therapy as treatments on the road to recovery. Just this past week I had two women come into the store who were recently diagnosed with cancer and were about to start losing their hair. All of us who work at Aaron Hats have had friends and family go through cancer treatments so we are especially sensitive to this issue. We always make an extra effort to point out hats that have a soft lining as this goes a long way in the comfort department. No matter how good the hat looks it just won’t work if it’s not comfortable when you don’t have any hair left. One item I’ve found that many women like to wear, and sometimes sleep in, is the Betmar Ethel turban shown here:

It is available in a variety of colors and is silky soft for comfort and can help keep a chill off your head on those chilly winter nights.

To those of you dealing with cancer our prayers go out to you for a quick recovery.

New Christys’ Caps

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

Last weeks big deliveries of summer hats included mostly ladies hats but there were a few men’s hats in the boxes. Some of my favorites are the new Christys’ caps both in Ivy and Newsboy cap style. These are great for summer as they’re a lightweight linen blend with a mesh lining.

The first example is the Christys’ CHS52 Ivy Cap:

Another is the Christys’ CHS54 Patchwork Newsboy Cap:

Ladies Wide Brimmed Hats

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

All of us here at Aaron Hats have been working as fast as we can to unpack all of the new hats we received this week. As seen in all the fashion magazines this year wide brim hats for women are all the rage. A couple that really stand out are the Betmar Vanessa Wedding Hat and the Betmar Plenty Sunbrim. The Vanessa is a dressy hat perfect for the summer weddings you’ll be attending while the Plenty Sunbrim is perfect for your new sun dress or sitting at your favorite beach reading a hot and steamy novel this summer. Both are packable and available in a variety of colors.

If these two pictures don’t convince you to wear a wide brimmed hat this summer (or to buy one for your sweetheart) nothing will.

No Hats?

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

While getting ready for work this morning I was watching The Today Show and couldn’t believe what I saw…or didn’t see. They were doing a “winter vacation” themed show today and were at the beach doing all the fun beach stuff we all do. During the show they had two segments about beach essentials. One piece was for adults and one for children. During the segment for adults they mention sunglasses, sunscreen, a water bottle and a couple other items. During the childrens segment they talked about sun protective shirts, sunscreen and water guns that double as flotation devices. Now all of these things sound like the perfect setup for a fun day in the sun but what did they forget? HATS! How can The Today Show, or any TV show, do a piece about “fun in the sun” without mentioning the importance of wearing a hat with proper UV protection. Over one million people in the USA are diagnosed with skin cancer every year so to ignore something as vital to skin cancer prevention as a hat does a dis-service to The Today Show viewers. Now you might say that I have a vested interest in getting hats on television because I sell hats you’d be right. But if you see what I see every summer you’d feel the same way. We have customers come in who have had pieces of their noses, ears, faces and scalps removed due to skin cancer. That should be enough to convince anybody to wear a sun hat and use sunscreen.

If you feel the same way I do about this be sure to let The Today Show know by emailing them at today@nbc.com.

Don’t take my word for it, take the time to learn more about skin cancer at these sites:

Straw Cowboy Hats

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

I’ve been busy unpacking all the boxes of new hats and thought I’d post a couple favorites. These are two straw cowboy hats that have been customer favorites year after year. These hats are great for sitting at your favorite beach this summer or going to a country concert.

The first is the Scala Raffia Western Hat. It has a turquoise hat band with leather chin cord and a shapeable brim.

Summer Fedoras

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

As promised the new Summer hats have started arriving and the first to show up are some fedoras. The first here is the Stetson Garner. The Garner is very light weight, has a 4″ crown, a 2 1/2″ snap brim and is made in the USA.

Another fedora to arrive is the Dobbs Carleton. This is a little heavier than the Stetson Garner but still light. The Carleton has a 4″ crown, a 2 3/8″ snap brim and is also made in the USA.

Both of these fedoras are stylish, comfortable and available up to size 8. If you wear a size 7 7/8 or 8 you know that you don’t have a lot of selection to choose from when it comes to fedoras.
