Red Sox Win!

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

As all of us Red Sox fans knew they would, the Red Sox swept the Colorado Rockies in the World Series. Unfortunately, we didn’t even get a chance to photograph the World Series Locker Room cap before they sold out. We do however have plenty of other World Series Caps made by New Era. We have both a Red Sox World Series structured cap and a Red Sox World Series unstructured cap, each available in three colors. We also will have a pink unstructured cap that is yet to be delivered.

The Red Sox won the World Series and the New England Patriots are undefeated…yeah, it’s good to be in New England right about now.

Woman in a Fedora

Monday, October 29th, 2007

There’s just something about a woman in a fedora. When wearing a fedora a woman can exude confidence, style, sophistication and of course sex appeal. The fedora has typically been a mans dress hat but we’re finding more and more women reaching for the fedora. I think women are getting tired of the “one size fits most” that’s so predominant in women’s hats they’re experimenting more with men’s hats. After all, so many of today’s fashions are about individual style. It’s not just our clothes and accessories, take a look at cars. The market for aftermarket auto accessories has never been hotter. Why? It’s all about individual style.

Take a look at these women in their fedoras and tell me they don’t look fantastic.

InStyle Magazine

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

Being in the fashion business I make sure we browse through several different fashion magazines so that we’re staying current with the trends. One of the best, if not the best, is InStyle Magazine. In the November issue there are so many hats I lost track. There are hats shown in fashion articles, hats used in advertisements and then there’s the cover story about Jessica Simpson where she’s shown wearing a Stetson Temple fedora. It’s hard to tell from the picture below that she’s wearing a Stetson Temple but she does wear it well.

Here are just a few of the many hats shown in the November issue of InStyle Magazine:

BCBG Maxazria - 1920’s style flapper hat
Payless - military style cap
Nikon - ivy cap
Bebe - wide brimmed women’s fedora

Join the crowd and get a hat on.

Naked?

Sunday, October 21st, 2007

It seems I’ve been wearing a hat so long that I literally feel naked when I go out without a hat on. How about you?

My Favorite Fedora

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

The Fedora continues to become increasingly more popular. The great thing about fedoras are the variety of brim widths, materials, colors and hat bands. You can choose a 1 1/2″ stingy brim fedora all the way up to a 3″ wide brimmed fedora. Anything wider than that I think starts to look more western/cowboy no matter how you style it. You can choose from wool felt, fur felt or even 100% beaver felt and the prices can vary as much as the personalities that wear the fedora hats.

My favorite fedora from last year is the Stetson Gaylord in a nice olive color:

Harvest of Hats

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

It’s harvest time and with that comes many duties that need to get done before the snow flies. There are the chores like putting away the outdoor furniture, raking the leaves, replacing the door screens with glass and at least a half dozen other things. Enough talk about work though. Let’s talk about the best parts of the season. There’s walking through the woods and hearing the crisp leaves crunch under your feet. Here in the White Mountains of New Hampshire there are the beautiful colors of Autumn that seem to match the fruits of the harvest like apples and pumpkins. A new fall hobby of mine since moving to the White Mountains is hunting, at least the attempt to hunt. There’s nothing quite like getting up real early in the morning, stepping outside to the cool, crisp air and walking through the pastures and woods. I find it’s more about enjoying the outdoors and all its beauty than about actually hunting. I no longer get to go buy new school clothes but I do enjoy picking out a new hat for the season. That hat might be a fedora, a western hat or an ivy cap but more than likely it will be one of each over the course of the season heading into winter. Here are a couple snapshots of a White Mountain Autumn.

Whether you’re doing chores or having fun isn’t it much better with a hat on? I think so.

The Military Cap

Monday, October 15th, 2007

Military style caps have taken the hat scene by storm this year. People are calling them by different names such as the Radar Cap, Mau Cap or Army Cap to name just a few. No matter what you call it they’re hot right now and we find ourselves struggling to keep up with the demand. I think a lot of men and women are moving into this style because it’s an easy transition from a ball cap. The question then becomes what will people transition to after the military style? Will it be back to a ball cap or will they move onto an Ivy Cap or Newsboy style? I hope they continue to progress in their hat fashion but only time will tell. There’s such a wide variety of fabrics to choose from when looking at the military cap. You can choose from distressed cotton, corduroy, wool, knits, canvas and of course a camo pattern in any of these fabrics. You can find a great assortment of these military style caps in our Ivy Cap section although if the collection grows any bigger we’ll need to give it its own category.
